By Jimmy Sliwa

Remember when you were a kid and Christmas was magical? You could hardly wait as you counted down the days leading up to Christmas.

Now that you are an adult the Christmas season can sometimes feel more stressful than fun. Take a break from the hustle and bustle and be sure to make time for you and your wife.

Don’t let the holidays pass by without enjoying them this year. Make memories and create new holiday traditions with these classic December date ideas.

Below is 10 December dates that is sure to get you and your wife in the holiday spirit.

1. Sleigh Ride

There are few things more romantic than a sleigh ride around the Christmas season. Google sleigh rides near me to find any local carriage drawn rides you could take your love on. Come prepared with a blanket and something warm to drink. Bundle up and ‘giddy up!’

2. Christmas Light Tour

Map out a route and hit the best neighborhood light shows. Some of the more festive neighborhoods will advertise in the local paper. Some hot cocoa and candy canes along with some great Christmas music is a sure winning combination.

3. Go Christmas Caroling

If you are feeling festive, try Christmas caroling at your friends and family’s home. You can bake some cookies beforehand and pass them out to help others get in the holiday spirit. Don’t forget the Santa hats to make it that much more festive.

4. Christmas Movie Marathon

Cuddle up with your love and watch some classic Christmas movies. You can choose some of your childhood favorites or try a totally new holiday movie. Our personal favorite is “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

5. Gingerbread Competition

A little lighthearted competition can be great fun. Grab a few gingerbread house kits and get to decorating. To make it more challenging set a timer and each pick a theme. To find unbiased judges, you can facetime friends and family and let them choose whose gingerbread house is the best.

6. DIY Christmas Ornaments

DIY projects are often a fun and bonding experience. Why not DIY a Christmas ornament that you can keep proudly put on the tree. For inspiration on some DIY Christmas Ornaments click HERE.

7. Attend an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Ugly Christmas sweater parties are quite popular. If you are looking for a fun date to share with friends, try going to an ugly Christmas sweater party. You can find some of the ugliest sweaters at a thrift store. I prefer the old lady knit sweaters.

8. Read Christmas Books Before Bed

Reading some classic Christmas stories before bed is a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit. Don’t have any Christmas books; no worries. You and your wife can head down to the local library and pick out some books. For inspiration see if you can find some of these classic stories.

  •  “Twas the Night Before Christmas” – Clement Clarke Moore
  • Nativity Story – Bible
  • “A Christmas Carol and Other Stories” – Charles Dickens
  • “A Charlie Brown Christmas” – Charles M. Shultz
  • “A Letter From Santa Clause” – Mark Twain

9. Wrap Christmas Gifts Together

Not every date has to be extravagant. I have some fond memories of sitting together and wrapping some Christmas presents while listening to some Bing Crosby. This date is best done when the kids are fast asleep.

10. Polar Plunge

For the adventurous wife that likes a challenge; try partaking in a polar plunge. You can time it with a charitable event or simple take the plunge yourself. After you take the plunge, head home to warm up with a little spa day (i.e. bathtub + hot cocoa).
